North Star Staff
Tanya Bennion
Tanya has almost 30 years of website development experience. She began her first web development and graphic design firm in 1996 and has enjoyed working in the field ever since. Among other roles, she was the Senior Web Developer for American University’s Washington College of Law in Washington D.C. and was responsible for maintaining the website for the Center for Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for the U.S. Department of Justice. For the past 20 years, she has worked exclusively for her own firm, Kawa Design Studios.
Tanya has always enjoyed organizing events since she was a child. In a typical year, she is in charge of putting on roughly five major events per year. Events include, but are not limited to, conferences and healing retreats for multiple organizations.
Tanya has been a part of North Star from its inception. From 2008-2015 she co-created North Star’s first retreats, the “Women of Worth” retreats, designed for spouses of SSA men. In 2014, she created North Star’s first Couple’s Retreat—a week-long cruise/retreat focusing on intimacy and communication in marriages, as well as a reunion retreat for participating attendees from these retreats.
Organizing and logistics aren’t her only forte, she loves to be creative as well. Tanya has been a professional graphic designer for almost 30 years. Work has included the creation of logos and corporate branding, print and online marketing campaigns, billboards, swag and more. Clients have included universities, congressional campaigns, famous artists, non-profits and companies large and small.
Tanya has a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from American University and is a certified professional life coach through San Diego State University.
