David & Claudia Beal
About the Beals
David and Claudia Beal were both raised on farms in Idaho. They met in a high school choir class in Boise when they were 15 years old and quickly became good friends. After David’s mission to Hong Kong, they were married in the Provo Utah Temple on April 1, 1977. They have been married for 48 years.
The Beals attended and graduated from Brigham Young University, where they majored in Accounting and Elementary Education, respectively. Following graduation, they moved to Boise, Idaho where David began working at Sears, Roebuck and Co. In 1983, David’s job took them to Chicago where he worked at Sears Tower for seven years.
After leaving Sears in 1990, David and Claudia moved to Layton, Utah where they remained for 28 years. During 13 of those years, David sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, now known as the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
In 2018, David and Claudia sold their home in Layton but did not immediately replace it; instead, they moved to China! They had been accepted by BYU’s China Teachers Program to teach English in the historic city of Xi’an. In time, David was called to serve as the branch president of the expatriate branch in Xi’an, and Claudia was called to serve as the Relief Society president in the Central China International District. They taught for three semesters and were then required to return to the States in January 2020 because of the pandemic. They bought a home next door to their oldest daughter and her family in west Texas and continued to teach their Chinese students remotely for
five more semesters. For church, they attended a very small branch in Sweetwater, Texas.
In 2023, David and Claudia were called to serve as humanitarian services missionaries in the Pakistan Service Mission and returned last September. The Beals have six children (two daughters and four sons) and 31 grandchildren who live in four different states: Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia and New York. David and Claudia have lived in Ephraim, Utah for the last three months near a son and his family.
